 · X-ray of the chest is often (but not always) done routinely the day after pacemaker insertion, both to check the positions of the electrodes as well as to exclude the complication of pneumothorax (see X-ray of pneumothorax). Evaluation Atrial lead Dual chamber pacemaker, X- ray - Stock Image F0. Credit: SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARYCaption: Dual chamber pacemaker. Coloured X- ray of the chest of a patient with a dual chamber pacemaker (top right). Wires lead from the device to both the right atrium and right ventricle of the heart. They supply electrical impulses that keep the heart beating regularly. Release details. Model release not required  · Pacemakers vary according to lead amount, paced heart chambers, and placement approach. The simplest, a single-chamber pacemaker, contains one lead. Through the transvenous approach, the lead can pace the right atrium in patients with sinus node disease or the RV in patients with atrial fibrillation with slow ventricular response. In right atrial pacing, PA chest radiograph shows an Cited by: 4

View Topic Outline. Overview The chest x-ray is a useful tool for determining the type of cardiac device present. Both PA and lateral films should be used to identify the location of leads associated with a cardiac device. Pacemaker A pacemaker is a device that provides an electrical impulse to the myocardium to stimulate contraction in response to bradyarrhythmia.

Types of Pacemaker Single chamber pacemaker - a single lead within the right atrium or single chamber pacemaker x ray ventricle Dual chamber pacemaker - leads within the right atrium and right ventricle Biventricular pacemaker - also known as a cardia resynchronisation therapy CRT device see below. A single chamber pacemaker: PA film No Overlay. A single chamber pacemaker: lateral film No Overlay.

A multi-chamber pacemaker with old leads present: PA film No Overlay, single chamber pacemaker x ray. A multi-chamber pacemaker with old leads present: lateral film No Overlay.

Automatic Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator An automatic implantable cardioverter-defibrillator AICD is capable of delivering a large amount of energy to cardiovert or defibrillate a patient out of a life-threatening tachyarrhythmia, single chamber pacemaker x ray. Look For A single lead with one or two large coils. Example An AICD with two large coils present No Overlay.

Cardiac Resynchronisation Therapy CRT Leads within the left and right ventricles, used to coordinate contraction of the ventricles in patients with severe heart failure. A cardiac resynchronisation therapy device may also be combined with a defibrillation lead CRT-D.

Example A cardiac resynchronisation therapy CRT device without a defibrillator lead: PA film. No Overlay. A cardiac resynchronisation single chamber pacemaker x ray CRT device without a defibrillator lead: lateral film No Overlay. Want more info like this?
